Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,
As this is the final newsletter of the year I would like to say thank you to our dedicated staff, enthusiastic pupils and committed parents for another wonderful year here at Glasnevin ETNS. I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable summer and a happy return to school on Monday 31st August. We wish a fond farewell to our two 6th classes who have their graduation on Wednesday and wish them a great onward journey into 2nd level, we know they will make us proud.
Each class has published their summer newsletter, please click here to access.

The value of the month was Creativity.
End of Year School Reports
The end of year school reports will be released to parents today on the school app, Aladdin Connect. If you have any queries you may contact the class teacher via the Aladdin Noticeboard.
On the reports children from 2nd to 6th class will also have Standardised Tests scores in the format of a STen. Children in 1st class will simply have met the criterion or are approaching it or have not met the criterion. The purpose of Standardised Tests is to gather information on your child’s reading and maths to help teachers plan specific learning. They may also be used to identify if a child has learning difficulties and needs additional support. These test scores are just a snapshot of how the child did on the day in that particular test and are not a holistic representation of their progress across the board at school. Please see reports for teacher’s comments on a child’s progress in their learning across the curriculum and in their skills development.
Please
click here for more information on STEN scores from NCCA. An average score (5-6) is the most common score across the country for your child’s age group.

Sports Day
A Huge well done to Dee’s senior infants and Lisa’s second class on their TV debut on Ireland Am on Tuesday morning.
We had a great time showing off our school, our sports skills, and racing against and cheering for Padraig who is on career break from GETNS at the moment and trying his hand at TV presenting. A fun day had by all Dee & Lisa
Schoolbooks Scheme
The Department of Education is now carrying out an evaluation of the scheme. Hearing directly from school staff, parents and guardians will help us understand what worked well and where improvements can be made. Your feedback will help shape how the scheme develops in the future, so it continues to support students effectively and reduces costs for families.
The Department of Education would be grateful if you could support this process by completing this parent/guardian survey:

Please note that the deadline for survey responses is Friday, 26 June.

And More!
A huge thanks to Carolina, Joys mam and grand dad all the way from Poland for popping in for a lesson on the coal mines and a mystery reader.
Last Friday 12th June, GETNS Student Council paid a visit to the Feed Our Homeless premises in Finglas. Feed Our Homeless were extremely grateful for the food drive the Student Council organised at Christmas. They said, "it was a standout moment of generosity" and had invited Student Council for a tour. We learned about the work of Feed Our Homeless, whose volunteers provide nightly food services to the homeless in the local area and in the city centre. We had a tour of the warehouse, which had food and clothes for adults and children. We then spent time helping out in the warehouse, with different groups helping to make food parcels for families, packing and unpacking food donations, and organising food items. It was a great trip and it was fantastic to get an insight into all of the hard work that Feed Our Homeless do. Well done to the Student Council for all their hard work! Sinéad

Summer Stars, the nationwide summer reading challenge, has begun. The aim is to encourage children to continue to enjoy books over the summer months. Children up to 12 years old can visit Drumcondra Library and join Summer Stars.
Summer Stars runs until the end of August. Children keep a record of the books that they read. They will get some goodies when they start and if they read 8 books, they will get a certificate and a medal. They might win prizes in a draw at the end of the summer too. All children need to join Summer Stars is their library card. If they don't have a library card, it's free to join and their parents can ask the library for a membership form.
