Active School Week’ was planned for this week and promised to be a really enjoyable week for all students. However, because of the circumstances we find ourselves in, it is not possible for this to go ahead so we are asking you, the families of our school to participate in the ‘Active HOME Week’ challenge instead! This is a good opportunity to focus on the importance of physical well-being, taking some time to have fun and be active! To complete the challenge children have to find four different ways of being active every day making sure that this add up to 60 MINUTES, or more. Children are encouraged to try something NEW, have FUN with a family activity and to ENJOY the week! You will find some ideas and videos to help you under the Physical Activity section of our Active School website: https://get.ie/active-school/physical-activity/ Please find the challenge worksheet and ideas word cloud below. Please return the completed challenge chart to your teacher. There are a few different ways you can return your challenge chart at the end of the week: Complete the GETNS Challenge Chart in Word and send it back as an attachment in an email to class teachers: Download here: GETNS Challenge Chart Hand drawn chart – Completed, photographed and sent back as an attachment to an email to class teachers Printed out chart – Completed, photographed and sent back as an attachment to an email to class teacher Fillable PDF – Saved as a file, completed and returned as an attachment to an email to class teachers. As part of our Road Safety Week, Garda Martin kindly visited our school and discussed how to be safe on our roads with students from 2nd-6th class. Garda Martin spoke about how to be safe as a pedestrian, a cyclist & a scooterist! He emphasied how imperative it is to wear a helmet when cycling or scooting! As lots of our children walk, cycle and scoot to school this discussion was very important.

Our students are really enjoying being active in the yard at lunch time. Our team of playground monitors from 6th class, supported by the active school coordinators, set up activities for the children in the yard on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Our active school monitors got feedback from each junior class about what their favourite playground games were. Based on this, they compiled a list of games they felt would be suitable for the yard. The playground monitors choose three games to focus on each week. As well as playground games, there is also an area set up with hoola hoops, skipping ropes and a parachute which the children love playing games with! Our playground leaders are doing an amazing job to make our playground more fun & active!
