We were all delighted to be back at school this month and our class have settled wonderfully back in to junior infants! Below are some snaps showing some of the things we got up to. This month’s Aistear theme was the farm. Children enjoyed playing in our farmer’s market role play area; in our small world farm; with sand & farm animals & they loved our outdoor clay area. Amazing creations were built with blocks & junk art as always and it was fantastic to see pupils working so well together. We have been working hard this month on our pre-cursive handwriting and phonics work. We learnt about data, length number and combining sets in maths. Children enjoyed singing songs as Gaeilge & using the phrases and vocabulary we learnt, particularly during Seachtain na Gaeilge. We had fun trying with science experiments for Engineering week and we really loved our parade for St. Patrick’s Day & our Easter egg hunt! In PE, have been working on our athletics strand & improving our skills in running, jumping & throwing. Children are also having lots of fun playing together in group games on yard.

December was a busy month for us! Our themes for the month were the Arctic & Santa’s Workshop. We learnt all about the Arctic & different Arctic animals & we wrote our very own reports on polar bears! We enjoyed playing in our Arctic role play area & in Santa’s workshop! We were arctic explores in our arctic role play area – looking out for different arctic animals or pretending to be arctic animals ourselves! Here, we had lots of fun in our igloo too! In Santa’s Workshop children planned their play to decide which station they would go to – first we designed our toys using catalogues & pictures as inspiration,. Next we assembled the toys as busy elves in the workshop. Then we had to sort through toys to decide if they were up to scratch by doing doing our quality check! Finally, we wrapped the toys to send out to children all over the world & put them in Santa’s sack ready to go! We did lots of creative & imaginative play in our Arctic small world area & we really loved playing using our imaginations to play in our winter snow area! As usual we created some fantastic junk art, including homes for arctic animals & lots of very festive creations! We really enjoyed building igloos and creating Santa’s Workshop with blocks & we also created some wonderfully imaginative playdough creations! We also played lots of fun maths & phonics games; we continued to work on our gymnastic skills in PE; we had fun with active breaks in our classroom & we had lots of discussions about what peace means to us, our value of the month for December. We love learning new Gaeilge words & phrases & we are getting more confident using our new Gaeilge vocabulary. We were very proud of our song singing & we loved sharing it with our parents on Seesaw! We hope you enjoy having a look at the snaps showing what we got up to for the last few weeks!.

Children were engaged in our lessons & morning activities; making jigsaws, threading breads; making shapes & patterns & working with playdough to make numbers & different types of homes.

It was wonderful to see all the fantastic team work amongst the pupils during all of our activities!

We’ve had a wonderful few weeks at school. I’m so delighted about how well the children have all settled in and how hard they’re working! Here is some of the learning and activities that took place: We continued learning about more/less in maths and we had fun comparing objects based on their length. Each group of children ordered themselves by their height. They also worked together ar their tables to order a group of items from longest to shortest.

We’re into our second week of long days and the Junior Infants have settled in so well and know all of the classroom routines already. We have been busy in our play areas making junk art, making sand castles and finding dinosaur bones in the sand, fitting out the house and castle, playing in the home corner and making amazing constructions with Lego and with the blocks. We are learning to play together and tell each other when something upsets us. We are sorting out in maths, exploring mixing colours in art and keeping active doing yoga. Life in Junior Infants is busy!

Thinking back to the story of our second term I certainly could not have imagined how the rest of our school year would turn out! Here are some happy memories of our lessons on Space, 10@10 activity breaks, getting ready for cursive handwriting and Disco Fridays to name but a few. I hope you enjoy them!

What an adventure we’ve had during our first year in Glasnevin ETNS! For the next few weeks we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane by looking at some photographs of all our learning and fun in Room 4. This first post is all about our first week in Junior Infants. I chose a colourful dinosaur print dress to wear on our first day together and can remember all your bright, happy faces coming in to our classroom! Do you remember our first play time or colouring in school pictures? Remember reading ‘The Kissing Hand’ together after we said goodbye to our families? How about our first time playing on the Main Yard with Jill’s class? Do you remember our first Circle Time where we learned each other’s names and talked about how we felt on our first day? I was so glad to hear that even though some of you were nervous or worried coming to school you all had fun and felt happy going home that afternoon! I hope you enjoy looking at these photos with your family. Love, Danielle.
