UDL

We’ve come to the end of two years suport/training from NCSE on UDL. David and Grace represented our school today at an NCSE forum, presenting an execellent synopsis of our journey to date. This includes:-

  • Visual Timetables across the school
  • Growth Mindset
  • Primary Maths Curriculum Developments
  • Chill Zone for yard
  • Clós Spraoi
  • LEANs Programme for 4th class children developing understanding of neurodiversity
  • Sensory Audit
  • Flexible Seating
  • Regulation

In addition to this we were asked to showcase our work at Middeltown Centre for Autism and huge thanks to Caroline and Lisa on their fabulous presentation which elaborated on Clós Spraoi.  See below videos from this presesntation.

By pure coincidence today I received this lovely message from one of our neighbours.

“I just wanted to say .. it’s such a joy everyday to hear all the children out playing in the yard on their breaks.

The screaming the shouting and the odd Row 😀is a joy to hear ..

In this age of phones , iPads etc not everyone is lucky enough to hear such wonderful sounds of Children happy out..

When visitors come , they can’t get over it and love it . A lot have said they have never heard children playing like that . Imagine ..

Sad world of technology has taken alot of that away .

So I’m such a lucky person to have the privilege of having A school behind.. Have a good day”

Flexible Seating & Our UDL Approach

As part of our ongoing work to support all learners through a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach, we are continuing to develop more flexible and inclusive classroom environments. UDL encourages us to provide children with choice, comfort, and varied ways to engage in their learning.

One of the ways we are doing this is by introducing flexible seating options in our classrooms. These alternative seating choices can help children to feel more comfortable, stay focused, and regulate their energy throughout the day.

We would really appreciate your support with this. If you have any items at home that you no longer use, we would be delighted to give them a new home in our classrooms. Items such as:

·        Beanbags

·        Cushions

·        Small rugs or mats

·        Floor pillows

·        Low stools or similar seating

All contributions will help us to create a more engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for every child. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Message from Department of Education and Youth’s Wellbeing Policy Statement

We want to hear from children and young people, parents andguardians, and school staff about their experiences ofwellbeing in school communities. Your feedback will help usunderstand:

·        What is working well at present

·        What could work better

·        How wellbeing can be supported more effectively in thefuture

And More!

On Friday we went to Leinster house. My dad showed us around. It was the biggest house I'd ever been in. Leinster house is where the government works. Debates happen there. The government has all the country's money to use on parks and loads of other things. We were in the Dáil. It was so cool to see it. My favourite part was seeing my dad. My favorite part was seeing the paintings of all the Taoiseachs. My dad was so generous that he gave us jellies. Written by Oscar and Evan 1st Class

1st class maths

In Maths we have been working on Transformations through Symmetry, Rotations and Translations (and a little bit of Tesselating!!)

We were exploring different strategies to add pairs of 2-digit numbers using hundred squares and base ten materials.

Children in the ALC class working hard and having fun!

Seán in 2nd class was the official ribbon cutter of a new sensory playground in St Helena’s Family Resource Centre in Finglas. This took place on 27th April.

A great new addition for the community.

You may have seen or heard in the media about The FTD Brothers, Jordan and Cain Adams from Worcestershire, who are raising awareness and funds for Frontotemporal Dementia following the loss of their mother, Geraldine, and several members of their extended family to the illness.

After completing the London Marathon, the brothers travelled to Ireland to undertake an extraordinary challenge: running 32 marathons across all 32 counties in 32 consecutive days.

Their journey will conclude in Dublin on 28th May in Merrion Square, and their route will pass close to Glasnevin Educate Together National School. Families are warmly encouraged to come out and support them if possible.

The brothers begin running each day at 10:00am and are expected to pass the Griffith Avenue Triangle and the junction of Griffith Avenue and Saint Mobhi Road at approximately 10:25am. Please see the attached route for further details.

Pupils from Jill’s Junior Infants, Dee’s Senior Infants, and both 6th classes will be present on the day with posters and cheers of encouragement. If you would like to follow or support the challenge further, please visit theftdbrothers.com.

We wish Jordan and Cain every success in this remarkable challenge and look forward to supporting them on the day. Dee
