Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Active School Flag!!

We are so delighted to have officially been awarded our Active School Flag! A huge thank you to pupils, staff, parents and the whole school community for their enthusiasm for all of the activities & initiatives, and to parents for being such active role models for your children! The Active School Coordinator was very impressed with everyone’s efforts in particular for Active School Week and he commented on how our school seems like a very positive, happy environment. Well Done everyone! Lisa

Really well done Lisa for the huge ongoing work in making this achievement possible, you really are phenomenal!! Thanks to Colm and all the team for your commitment to being an Active Schools. We look forward to the Flag ceremony.

Testing

We are going ahead with standardised testing as usual this year. For the first time we will use the new Drumcondra Tests where the standard is higher and typically children will score lower than in the older version.  We are mindful that the children’s learning has been disrupted over the last two years and that they didn’t have any practice of testing last year.  Crucially this provides one measure of the children’s ability on a given day and doesn’t necessarily reflect their broader learning experiences and progress.  The most useful aspect of the process is that it informs planning for next year and highlights learning priorities, group and individual needs.

Sub-Finance Committee

As recommended in the Board of Management Guidance document, we now have a sub-finance committee set up, composed of Board and PTA members. This will help with ensuring compliance with financial management and transparency for everyone. Thanks to them for their work to date.

Congratulations to the poetry winners

Since we mentioned 3rd class poetry being displayed at Phibsborough Library we have been informed of winners of the competition (see across). Comhgairdeas Henry agus Éanna, bainigí sult as!

Alex, Peter O’G and Harry in 5th class are running for a South African charity called Endangered Wildlife Trust. They are running to Big Ben (London) and touched in Wales during the week! They have raised to date €700!

Art Day

Art Day is the 18th June and the PTA have been assisting the teachers to make this year’s Art Day possible. It will be a very different day but we have come up with a number of exciting items for each class to do on the day. We need your assistance collecting the following things:

  • Socks (all sizes, shapes and even ones with holes)
  • Toilet rolls
  • Junk art (cardboard only please)

There are labelled boxes outside the main school door under the shelter for these items. They are available for the next few weeks at this spot.

Many thanks for your assistance.
