Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Primary School Survey

If you haven’t already completed this survey, please do. This is our opportunity to help shape the future of primary school provision in our community.

Answer this short online survey from the perspective of not having the option you have:

  • Whether your school should be co-educational or single-sex
  • Whether your school should operate under a denominational or multi-denominational patron
  • Whether your school should provide education primarily through the English language or Irish language

Survey details: Complete online at: gov.ie/primaryschoolsurvey

Your response is confidential and anonymous, and every voice matters.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and encourage others to do the same.

Teacher Burnout Research recently published from DCU

I was delighted to be invited and attend a Think Tank yesterday at DCU where I learnt more about the outcomes of this valuable research, factors contributing to burnout and protective factors.

Student Council are organising a Christmas Food Appeal on behalf of the Finglas charity "Feed Our Homeless"

Feed Our Homeless are appealing for various foods that make the holiday season more enjoyable for those less fortunate. If you can, please contribute one piece of food from the poster. They can be left at Nicky's office or brought to the class teacher. The closing date for collections is Tuesday 16th December. Thank you so much for your support.  GETNS Student Council

Wellbeing Christmas check in with Fiona Forman

This week we had a zoom call with Fiona Forman, one of the authors behind the Weaving Wellbeing programme. She talked to us about being kind to ourselves and to others. She told us that it is okay not to be perfect and to be respectful to everyone around us. She chatted to us about helpful Self Talk, focusing on the positive in a situation and knowing mistakes are okay.

She finished up the webinar with a nice quote 'Do good to feel good' which means if you are kind to others you will feel good about yourself.

Isobel and Emilia Áine's 6th class.

Zoom Call to Antarctica

Our Zoom call to Antarctica was very successfully with a clear connection and we learned lots of interesting facts.  Some of the interesting facts were about Tiger Seals, Crevices and visible signs of melting along the coast.

We had a double surprise last Friday in Senior Infants with both of Sophie’s parents in school.

First our mystery reader with a lovely Christmas story and then we had a whole school zoom with Antarctica thanks to Sophie’s dad.

Thanks to Jana and Kevin for a great day! Dee

Third class had a great time at the Henrietta Street Museum. We learned all about life in the tenements in Dublin. We learned that it could be difficult - crowded and dirty - with little access to medicine, education or clean facilities we often take for granted.

6th Class Science Fair

With science week falling in November, Colm's 6th class researched science projects for homework over the course of the month and then presented their findings to the class. We saw some fantastic experiments involving catapults, oobleck, boba pearls, ph. testing, walking water and many more.

We were blown away by the effort Leon put into his experiment on Elephant Toothpaste. He created an amazing display detailing the science behind the experiment. Well done Leon.
