Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Value of the Month

The Learn Together value for the month is Unity: harmony in a group; working together with a shared goal. Our wellbeing focus for the month of October involves developing mindfulness. We invite you to go on a family mindfulness walk at home; why not try out the 5 Senses Mindfulness Walk.

Yom Kippur 4-5th Oct

Some classes are learning about Yom Kippur, celebrated as part of Judaism, through PowerPoint presentation and personal recounts by families who practice Judaism.

National Tree Day 6th Oct

To celebrate trees and grow in appreciation of their importance, today some classes visited Albert College Park, the two Fifth classes enjoyed a guided tour on pollination at the Botanic Gardens, and others collected leaves within our school premises.

Both Senior Infant Classes enjoyed exploring Albert College Park this morning, learning about different types of trees and having fun in nature! They collected fallen leaves and will write reports on their favourite one in school. 🍁

Maths Week 15-23rd

Thanks to Sylvia and Oisín, we have an exciting itinerary of activities planned across the school and are seeking volunteers among the parent body to take part in this.

Frása na Seachtaine:

Ní neart go cur le chéile. There is no strength without unity.

Other Events

I’m passing on other events outside of the school which tie in with our value of Unity and wellbeing focus for the month …

Come and join us for a free evening session filled with simple but effective tools and strategies to nourish mental health.

Sign up Now – Cyberbreak is Back!

October is Cyber Security Awareness month. We are delighted to announce CyberBreak on Friday, 21st October, 2022. We’re asking families across Ireland to ‘disconnect to reconnect’ by taking a complete break from the online world for 24 hours (5pm Friday – 5pm Saturday). This is a fun way for kids and parents to reflect on how much time they spend online and to promote a healthy online-offline balance. https://www.cybersafekids.ie/cyberbreak/

Autumn Fair - Sunday 23rd October 12PM to 3PM

The Autumn Fair is just over two weeks away and we are getting very excited.

We will have all the usual stalls that we have missed so much due to covid but new this year will be a hairdresser to do styles and cuts.

Chris Judge, our very own super Children’s author and illustrator will have something special on.

We have our traditional range of rooms including our very popular Toy room, Beauty room, Boutique, Bric a Brac, relaxing Holistic treatments and Books. We have our famous spine-chilling haunted house, not to mention all the delicious food on offer.

OH, the excitement!

[email protected], limited spots so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

For just €20 you can get a selection of studio shots and the price includes one free shot emailed to you to print as many as you like. [email protected].

Hairdresser

Book early as this is sure to book up. Please email Zhongxin on [email protected] to arrange your appointment for a style or cut.

By now you should have received the raffle tickets in your child’s schoolbag. There is a reward for the class that sells the most. There is no obligation to buy all tickets as we know there could be more than one child per house in the school. Please return tickets sold or unsold to your teacher. Nicky also has a supply in her office for those enthusiastic individuals.

If you own, run or help out in a business that could provide a prize for our raffle please email Carol Plummer ([email protected]). Our raffle team are asking you to explore all options. No item is too big or too small.

Donations! Donations! Donations!

We are accepting donations from
Monday next week. Toys, bric-a-brac, books, Boutique clothes and arts and crafts can be dropped into the school every day. Please leave them inside the boiler room, entrance around to the left of the main door. There will be someone on hand to show you where to go. The more we have, the better it will be. NO CAR SEATS OR LARGE ITEMS for the bric-a-brac.

We are looking for the following items for the VERY POPULAR TOY STALL; Games, Jigsaws/Wooden puzzles (all pieces included), Dolls, Cuddly Toys (clean), Baby/ Preschool toys, Dress-up costumes, Lego sets, Bikes/scooters, anything that lights up and makes noise or any other toy that has made your little one laugh, but you’re happy to pass on!! Only clean usable items will be accepted.

We will have a PUMPKIN CARVING COMPETITION. Weird or wonderful, cute or creepy, bring them in already carved on the day to win prizes in 4-8yrs, 9-12yrs and 13+yrs age groups.

This year we will have a fancy-dress competition, not just for the kids but for the adults too so come dressed in your finest dress up costumes.

We need lots of volunteers. We only have half the volunteers required to run the fair. We need approximately 120 to make it work for all rooms/stalls. We also need volunteers for Set Up on Friday 21st at 2.20pm and for Clean Up on the day of the Fair Sunday 23rd after 3pm. Please contact Valerie Tavares [email protected].
