Dear Parents and Guardians/A Thuismitheoirí agus a Chaomhnóirí,

Failte mhór!

Welcome back all. It’s great to see everyone again and hear of all the new things that have been tried over the summer from new activities like camping to tasting snails for the first time to balancing a large box on the back of a bike! It’s also impressive to hear what everyone wants to work on this year, in particular, from reading, Irish, maths, crochet, knitting to listening better.

Dream Team

Much to my delight we have great continuity on our team this year. We have a new first with a past pupil joining the team, Jodie in Junior Infants. We also have Laura in Senior Infants and we welcome them both warmly. Isn’t it fab to see the next generation stepping up.

We are sorry to lose Alicia who joined in September 2023 as an ANA in the Junior Special Class and worked there since. Alicia came to us with much experience and expertise and contributed significantly to the team. We will miss her and wish her nothing but the best in her next steps.

Smartphones

As you are all aware, Glasnevin Educate Together NS have a Smartphone - Free Parent Pact, and provides an opportunity to create a new norm, primarily for the wellbeing of all pupils. Glasnevin ETNS strongly encourages parents/guardians to delay smartphone or any personal phone use for children of primary -school age. Additional information and resources are available from the Smartphone Free Childhood website .

Please take a few minutes to read our Digital Devices Policy.

In brief:

Personal devices will not be used by children under any circumstances for school - based activities. (does not apply to devices that are granted under assistive technology or are used for medical reasons.)

The Board encourages parents to request that children leave mobile phones and smart watches at home.

Where a pupil does bring a mobile phone or a smartwatch to school, the parent must inform the teacher in writing of the request to bring a phone to school, and parents must sign the Digital Device Statement (Appendix A) stating their acceptance and compliance with this policy. Please read the policy for agreed consequences if this step has not been taken.

Phones and smartwatches must be turned off during school time and in school bags.

If we need to contact you regarding your child during the school day, or you need to contact your child, all communication will be managed through the school office.

ECA Sign-Up

Please click here to read the information about this year's ECAs.

Please note that the ECA sign-up system is a little different this year.

Google Forms for each club will be shared on Monday morning at 10:00am. If you would like to sign your child up for more than one club, you will need to complete a separate Google Form for each club you wish your child to attend.

Please make sure to complete a form for each club you are interested in.

And More!

Beccy and Kathy's 3rd class group had a great first week back. We made collage portraits and played lots of games. We are looking forward to the year ahead together.

Bridge Challenge

Our class took part in an exciting teamwork challenge, designing and building a bridge using only paper. The children worked together to share ideas, solve problems and test their designs. They discovered the importance of communication, cooperation and perseverance while having lots of fun competing to create the strongest bridge! Liah

We have had a busy first week of Senior Infants catching up with old friends and making new ones too!
